Excavator as a Crane (N100) – NPORS Accredited Course

The NPORS Excavator as a Crane (N100) course is designed for trained excavator operators who require an additional qualification to safely and legally carry out lifting operations using an excavator. Course Overview

This short, focused course builds on standard excavator training and introduces the theory and practical application of lifting operations using excavators fitted with lifting eyes or other lifting attachments. It is suitable for operators working across construction, civil engineering, and utility sectors where lifting with excavators is required.

What the Course Covers

• Health and Safety Legislation Understanding LOLER, PUWER, and lifting-related regulations.

• Lifting Equipment and Attachments
  Identification and correct use of lifting accessories, including slings, chains, and lifting points.

• Load Assessment Calculating load weight, centre of gravity, and radius impacts.

• Lift Planning and Risk Assessment Conducting basic lift planning, method statements, and safety checks.

• Using the Excavator for Lifting Tasks Operating within rated lifting capacity, using lifting charts, and following safe lifting practices.

• Communication and Signals Working with banksmen and slinger/signallers to perform coordinated lifts.
