Log Handler (N106) – NPORS Accredited Course
The NPORS Log Handler (N106) course is designed for individuals who operate purpose-built log handling machinery. These machines are commonly used in forestry yards, timber mills, and recycling operations involving large, irregular loads.
Course Overview
This course trains operators in the specific challenges of handling long and heavy timber or log bundles using rotating grapples or forks. Emphasis is placed on safe stacking, lifting, and manoeuvring of logs, as well as machine stability and risk reduction.
What the Course Covers
Health & Safety Awareness Identifying risks in log yards and around large, unstable loads.
Pre-Use Checks & Maintenance Inspecting hydraulic systems, tyres/tracks, and attachments.
Attachment Familiarisation Safe operation of grapples, forks, or log clamps.
Lifting & Stacking Techniques Efficient and safe load handling and placement procedures.
Working on Uneven Ground Manoeuvring over rough terrain and dealing with visibility restrictions.
Shutdown & Isolation End-of-shift procedures for securing the machine.
