What the Course Covers

Health and Safety Awareness Understanding relevant legislation, the importance of PPE, and maintaining safe working practices on site.

Pre-Use Inspections Carrying out daily machine checks, identifying defects, and following reporting procedures.

Machine Familiarisation Understanding controls, components, and attachments of both tracked and wheeled 360° excavators.

Safe Operating Techniques Performing key tasks such as excavating, trenching, grading, backfilling, and travelling safely across varied terrain.

Working Around Services Recognising potential hazards around underground and overhead services and operating safely in their vicinity.

Lifting Operations (Optional) Conducting lifting tasks using excavators fitted with lifting eyes—must be specified when booking.

Shutting Down and Securing the Machine Applying correct procedures for parking, isolating, and safely securing the excavator post-operation.
What to Expect on the Course
The course includes a combination of practical training, theory instruction, and assessment. Training is carried out on-site or at an approved training centre by experienced NPORS-qualified instructors.

Entry Requirements

For novice training, no previous experience is required.

For experienced operator assessment, prior experience operating 360° excavators is essential.

All candidates must have a good understanding of spoken and written English.

Those applying for the NPORS-CSCS card must have passed the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test within the last 2 years.
Certification
Successful candidates will receive a NPORS Operator Card, which may be issued as:

A Traditional NPORS Card (suitable for non-CSCS sites), or

A NPORS-CSCS Card (for recognised access to major construction sites – subject to meeting CSCS requirements)
Certification is valid for 5 years. Renewal requires refresher training or reassessment.
