Loading Shovel (N209) – NPORS Accredited Course

The NPORS Loading Shovel (N209) course provides operators with the skills and knowledge required to operate wheeled loading shovels safely across a variety of site settings. Commonly used in construction, recycling, quarrying, and aggregate handling, this course focuses on control, stability, and efficient load movement.

Course Overview

The course trains learners to perform safe manoeuvres, load and discharge materials, and carry out machine inspections and maintenance. Emphasis is placed on health and safety practices and adapting to different ground conditions.

What the Course Covers

  • Health & Safety Awareness Understanding site risks, visibility concerns, and operational safety.

  • Machine Walkaround & Daily Checks Identifying and reporting faults, understanding fluid levels and tyre checks.

  • Operating Controls & Features Familiarisation with hydraulics, bucket control, and reverse steering.

  • Loading & Discharging Safe and effective techniques for handling materials into hoppers, trucks, or stockpiles.

  • Site Travel & Manoeuvring Working on inclines, in confined areas, and on rough terrain.

  • Shutdown & Isolation End-of-shift procedures and safe parking practices.

Entry Requirements

Successful candidates receive the NPORS Loading Shovel (N209) operator card (Traditional or NPORS-CSCS route).
