The NPORS MEWP Boom (N108) course is designed for individuals who operate boom-type mobile elevated work platforms (e.g., cherry pickers). Common in construction, maintenance, tree work, and facilities management, this course ensures safe working practices at height using telescopic or articulated boom lifts.

Course Overview

Operators are trained in hazard awareness, safe platform operation, emergency controls, and pre-use inspection routines. The course includes both ground-based and platform-based instruction to ensure operators are competent in all aspects of boom lift usage.

What the Course Covers

• Health & Safety Legislation Including Working at Height Regulations and PPE use.

• Pre-Use Checks Daily inspections on controls, safety devices, and hydraulic systems.

• MEWP Controls & Stability Familiarisation with boom movement, outriggers, and safe platform positioning.

• Safe Operation at Height Avoiding overhead hazards, safe entry/exit, and platform manoeuvring.

• Emergency Descent Procedures Use of ground controls and emergency lowering functions.

• Shutting Down and Securing Post-use isolation, parking, and recharging if applicable.

• Theory-based instruction and MEWP safety briefing

Entry Requirements
