Course Overview

The course provides practical training and theoretical knowledge in safe loading techniques, restraint systems, legal weight limits, and risk assessments. Operators will learn how to correctly position, secure, and unload a range of plant machines in compliance with health and safety legislation and transport regulations.

• Health & Safety Legislation Understanding LOLER, PUWER, and securing loads in transit.

• Pre-Use Vehicle Checks Ensuring trailers and transport vehicles are roadworthy and fit for purpose.

• Planning the Load Assessing weight, dimensions, centre of gravity, and load distribution.

• Loading Techniques Positioning and aligning plant equipment safely using ramps or tilt-beds.

• Load Securing Methods Using chains, straps, tensioners, and edge protectors in line with industry standards.

• Unloading Procedures Safe removal of securing equipment and controlled machine dismount.

• Emergency Procedures Responding to load shifts or restraint failure during transit.

Successful candidates receive the NPORS Plant Loader & Securer (N120) operator card, valid for 5 years.
